SWINNEY PUBLIC LIBRARY

(1952)

Away from the humidity and sweat

of that stifling house

I rode my brother’s bike

to a large, quiet room

of high ceilings and full shelves.

The smell of book bindings

and ageless musk was

everywhere to be inhaled.

Seven then, I learned

the mind could take me

anywhere I needed to pedal.
