The night I let my body sway in the same direction
as the wind and the trees, I shared the passage
of my own ending with the never-ending life
of the universe, the earth moving on without me,
my own cycle streaming around and over me,
sharing dry roots and stems, grass overtaking
my leavings, the sum of my shadow evaporating
into eternity, seeking more light, more time,
one more doorway into the edges of deviations
of days and nights, spirits beyond fire and cold,
over which my only control was none of none
but to sway with the trees and let go
