To vandals of the Kansas City

Vietnam War Memorial

Don’t mock this wall

Don’t say these soldiers

didn’t fight a real war

While you watched playoff games,

they crouched in the mud and missed their women

They are of the sixty thousand,

robbed of their youth

by men in press conferences

Don’t mock this wall

Don’t say these soldiers

wanted to make war

They only wanted to live out their dreams

They just wanted to be like you

Slide your fingers over their names

and tell me you can’t hear

the echo of their voices

chanting Peace!  Peace!

Let this wall be

It belongs to them

They paid for it
