Once caught, hook in lip,
I want to ask them
if they would say a few words
about life under water
It seems their mouths will only
open and close with “Why? Why?”
I have no answer for them
nor do they ask questions of me
After I throw them back
with an attempt at apology,
they leave a smelly “no thanks”
all over my hands
At the least they might
break the surface
in apology for slime
and life above water
