I have warned him of going alone in the forest,
of reaching with his bare hand
into the dark recesses of nature,
of the mountain lion and bear,
a startled moose
His questions are of why animals eat one another,
the reason for poisonous plants, snakes and insects,
ridges and cliffs where sharp stones may await him
Before I can answer, he leaves my hand in a rush
and he has yet to meet face to face with savage,
two legged types of our own species
I have no answers for the dangers there
