Thank you, Madam Beautician,

for use of the recliner

I’m so relaxed watching you

tease my lover’s hair

and listening to the chatter

of women who’ve forgotten

their men are not around

Do you think she and I

could sleep here tonight?

We will be the only two left

The new age music, lotions,

candles and fingernail polish

have left me quite somnolent

It would be so nice

if you could sit between us

for a while and read a story

We could lay our heads

on your lap and dream

about witches and ogres

Sing us to sleep then, will you?

Tomorrow is Sunday

and with the shop closed

for the day we could doze

as long as we want

Before you leave, all we will need

is for you to switch on a nightlight
