An unknown beauty

of lavish dark hair

and eyes of desire

awaits me in the stretch

of bougainvillea

just outside of sleep

Revelers down the beach,

loud with Scotch and rum,

guffaw well after midnight

Wind scatters papers off the table

of the lanai

and I rush to salvage them

The surf booms against boulders

standing between paradoxes

Too bright, too, the moon
