Coyote thin, the anomaly, a creature
with oversized head and tail of a husky,
lopes side by side a full furred vixen
mid morning through the tall clover hay
of a mountain meadow
Locals and tourists blame the crossbreed
for what’s missing –
pet kittens, small pedigree dogs,
gone from condos, log homes
and ski lodges
As I watch them leap, heads bobbing,
coats ruffled by the wind,
they look to be sporting,
celebrating clouds and skies
in defiance of unnatural laws
preached by delusional men
from ancient tablets of stone
